We've worked with many different Scouting America councils and were excited when the Northeast Illinois Council approached us wanting a new website design. We worked closely with them to develop a modern, mobile friendly, accessible website with translation features, internal site search, and greatly simplified navigation.
Custom Website Designs
We worked closely with the team at NEIC to build them a beautiful new design for their home site. They wanted something that communicated their council's identity without straying far from Scouting America's national brand colors and guidelines. We built them a custom design that is unique and memorable but which also screams "scouting" so that there's no confusion about what kind of site it is.
Beyond that, we built a custom shared design for their camp reservation sites, Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan and Camp Crown. The camps have different features, locations and services to offer, but both sites share an overarching purpose, so we came up with a single design that could be adjusted for each camp to show their own logo and color scheme, maps and content.
BlackPug Calendar Feeds
NEIC already manages their events on BlackPug, so we created a custom feed display that would consume the ICS calendar feed BlackPug produces and convert it into a nice user friendly display of events.
This means whenever they add a new event in BlackPug, it automatically shows up on the relevant page on their website. A cub scout event shows up on the cub scout page, while a NYLT event only shows up on the NYLT page, and so on. Their homepage also showcases "featured" events from all categories!
Resource Library
We built a sortable, searchable resource library to house all of the various documents that NEIC needs users to be able to find. It integrates with the site search automatically so that files they upload can be easily found.
More Scouting Websites!
With many of our team members being involved in scouting, we've had the opportunity to work on many scout council websites as well as microsites for scouting events over the years. We're pretty proud of our work with HOAC and NEIC in particular, and we have been fortunate to start work with a few other councils this year. We're looking forward to building new templates and features that will help make the work of building and maintaining a scout council website much easier on the council staff.
